Below you will find a description of each of the executive positions.
Vice-Chair – In the Chair’s absence, or by the Chair’s request, the Vice-Chair may be asked to fulfill the Chair’s duties. In the event that the Chair steps down prior to the end of their term the Vice-Chair will assume the role of the Chair until the next general election. The Vice-Chair or approved proxy will be responsible for external affairs, including representation on applicable committees.
Secretary – Organizes venues for STRIVE YPG meetings, prepares material for meetings, including agendas and related documents/reports; takes, transcribes and distributes minutes for Committee meetings and the AGM that will be reviewed and approved by the Committee; manages incoming correspondence email and responds to external inquiries on an ongoing basis; develops content for the purpose of membership updates for various communications platforms as determined by STRIVE. Secretary, Marketing, Communications and Events officers are to work hand in hand to assist with all communications being sent to the public and membership.
Finance Officer – Shall be responsible for all monies belonging to STRIVE YPG including: deposits, withdrawals, and reconciliation; provide monthly updates or as requested by the Executive for review; responsible for grant applications and reimbursements; and submitting an annual budget for approval by the Committee; and liaison with the SSMCOC Chamber staff and Finance Committee.
Marketing Officer – Maintains various communications platforms and recommends best practices to the STRIVE committee in the effort to communicate information about programs to members and non-members through the website, social media, newsletter or other facets of communication. Secretary, Marketing, Communications and Events officers are to work hand in hand to assist with all communications being sent to the public and membership.
Events Officer – Develops events from concept to completion, including space, invitations, food, decorations, nametags, etc.; coordinates with Marketing Officer to develop promotional material for events; coordinates with the Finance Officer to determine budget and potential funding opportunities for events; arranges for volunteers, when necessary, and provides them with direction; ensures the event is properly documented (i.e. photographs). Secretary, Marketing, Communications and Events officers are to work hand in hand to assist with all communications being sent to the public and membership.
Communications Officer – manages media relations for STRIVE YPG’s activities and events (i.e. press releases); assists the Marketing Officer by developing content for programs, events, benefits, updates to information and opportunities to members and non-members through the website, social media, newsletter or other platforms as approved by the STRIVE group; Secretary, Marketing Communications and Events officers are to work hand in hand to assist with all communications being sent to the public and membership aawfua6.
Recruitment Officer – coordinates recruitment material and distribute to potential members in the community; work closely with the Marketing Officer and Finance Officer regarding potential recruitment material and to host recruitment events; ensure all completed membership application forms are provided to the Secretary and payment is provided to the Finance Officer; screen potential applicants; and provide regular membership updates to the STRIVE Executive.
Chair – Preside at all meeting and provides leadership to the Executive navigate here. In the Chair’s absence, or by the Chair’s request, the Vice Chair may be asked to assume this responsibility as required. At each Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Chair will present an Annual Report, financial statements, and suggested events for the upcoming year; will take the lead in calling Executive meetings as required and assist with building the agenda; make decisions and give direction as necessary to members of the Executive regarding business and events; and represent STRIVE YPG on the SSMCOC Board of Directors.
Advocacy Officer – This position (appointed by the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors) operates with the intention of researching and coordinating advocacy initiatives relating to, but not limited to, government policy, legislation, and programming; issues effecting young professionals’ development; issues affecting local business development; or advocacy efforts in correlation with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce proving relevance to the STRIVE YPG. The Advocacy Officer is to provide regular updates to the STRIVE Executive.
Member At Large – Member At Large is to be a member of the STRIVE group who has not previously been a member of the Executive. This individual can be can be approved and appointed by the Executive for a term that expires at the next general election.
